SMALL HEAVENS FACE

Created in the beginning of the 1970s, the Face series explore a fascination with metamorphosis in Greek and Roman mythology. Finely detailed gold is transmogrified and illuminated by precious stones, symbolising the complexity of human nature and our place in the natural world. "Proportions, emotional expressions, and facial features reflect the creator. Through art we get to meet another person’s soul”, Arje Griegst

To determine your ring size, do the following:

  • Use a piece of string or dental floss and wrap it around the base of your finger.
  • Use a pen to mark the point on the string where the end meets.
  • Use a millimeter ruler to measure the string.
  • Choose the closest measurement to the chart above to find your ring size.

Tips for best results:

  • Allow enough room to accommodate your knuckle.
  • Bear in mind, different fingers on the same and the opposite hand may have different sizes. Therefore, measure the specific finger on which you are planning to wear the ring.
  • Measure your finger at the end of the day when your finger is likely to be largest.

FACES HISTORY

The word metamorphosis has Greek roots meaning transformation, a subject that the Roman poet Ovid explored in his book Metamorphoses (8 AD). Weaving together Greek and Roman fairytales, stories and myths, Ovid’s tales of people turning into animals, plants and stones has been a recurring companion for Arje Griegst, most notably seen in the Faces series. “Proportions, emotional expressions, and facial features reflect the creator. Through art we get to meet another person’s soul” – Arje Griegst

FACE OF THE NIGHT PENDANT, 18K GOLD, OPALS, DIAMONDS AND ORIENTAL PEARLS.

Every piece is named with the enigmatic poetry that is felt in Griegst’s work. From ‘The Secretive Lake in the Ruby Mountains’ to ‘The Strange Forest’, ‘Sunset Flower’ and ‘Celestial Body’, they are all imbued with enchanting powers.

BIG GNOME RING, 18K GOLD WITH A MOUNTAIN CRYSTAL & BESPOKE RING WITH A FACE HANDCARVED IN OPAL.

Concepts such as beautiful and ugly feel truly irrelevant when describing these pieces. In order to keep the power of attraction the ‘ugly’ should always be nourished.

An 18K gold and diamond ring titled ‘Small Heaven’s Face Diamond’ made in Denmark by fine jewellery designer Arje Griegst from the early 1970s. The ring is shown on a slender woman’s hand with ruby red nails. The ring sits on the index finger and the gold has been shaped into a woman’s face with wavy hair surrounding her face and continuing around the finger in a wide, wavy band. A Top Wesselton VVS diamond is embedded in the gold hair.
