Candlesticks

In the 1960s, Arje Griegst ventured into the world of sculpting, transitioning from an experienced jewelry artist to a sculptor.

Arje Griegst spent several periods throughout his career at the Bel Fiore bronze foundry in Pietrasanta, Italy, working closely with bronze artisans. Using the same self-invented cire perdue technique as used for his Spiral series, he conjured bewitched bronze candlesticks and candelabras from the 1960s and onwards.

Arje dedicated years to experiment with different expressions and textures of bronze. The almost melting candlesticks came to life in the 1960s. His mastery of bronze craftsmanship extended from smaller artifacts to grandiose sculptures and in 1989 Arjes particularly enchanting fountain was installed in the Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen. The candlesticks from this era were defined by more rigid lines and structures than the previous ones.

Today, the bronze candelabras are still crafted by artisans at the very same foundry in Pietrasanta, excatly as they were decades ago. The workshop is a sanctuary where time seems to stand still, guided by the skilled hands of a father and his son.

Each candlestick is meticulously forged and brought to life. With every stroke of the hammer and every twist of the flame, they transform molten metal into works of art.
