Xanadu Vases

In celebration of the Griegst House 60th anniversary, the Xanadu Vase has been issued from the archive for the very first time.

In 1983, Arje Griegst released the Xanadu collection in collaboration with Holmegaard Glass Factory: a series of hand blown twisting crystal that swirls gently as if you were swimming underwater and looking up at the reflections on the surface.

Because of the way the crystal is twisted into shape and how it varies in thickness, it becomes almost liquid and alive - the glass embodiment of the movement Griegst always pursued across all his mediums.

The word Xanadu, derived from the poem Kubla Khan by Samuel Coleridge, symbolizes a utopian realm of beauty and serenity.

While exploring the possibilites of the melting glass, Arje twisted and developed the Xanadu Vase. The Xanadu Vase was never put into production and therefor never became an official part of the established Xanadu glassware series.

Many decades later, the house is very proud to once again put this mesmerizing glass vessel back in production with the original team at Holmegaard. The vase is presented in new and vivid colors with the same captivating swirling design that resembles the movement of water.

The creation of each Xanadu Vase is an orchestrated process executed by skilled artisans, where the molten glass is mouth-blown and skillfully shaped and formed, resulting in exquisite and unique shapes and patterns.
