Arje Griegst developed his own technique to cast his Spiral bracelets, it was exactly what he wanted to manifest and precisely what he intended: an organic, dramatic form of expression.
COSMOS AND STARDUST
Glittering galaxies, faraway nebulas and the mysteries of the endless universe collide in the Cosmos and Stardust series. Rings appear as if they have been exposed to solar winds and asteroid impacts: the gold is dimpled by meteor showers of celestial sapphires and rubies that have become embedded in the precious metal in their original ‘raw’ form.
Capturing the human psyche in finely detailed gold
Faces appear throughout Arje Griegst’s work as part of his self-styled fables. Finely detailed in cire perdue, pieced together from the mysticism of precious stones or cast as miniature busts displayed on a finger, they explore his fascination with metamorphosis in Greek and Roman mythology.
Whirling maelstroms and roaring vortexes are mapped in the Oceania rings, a series of substantial pieces from the 1980s. The untamed forces of wild, ferocious currents are distilled into weighty gold rings that can be customised to contain larger stones within their tempestuous patterns.
TRAY & CANDELABRAS
Decorative objects transcend their familiar shapes and come to life in surreal shapes in the Griegst universe. Forming a natural extension of Arje Griegst’s expressive language, bronze candlesticks and silver trays are transformed into dramatic centrepiece works that showcase the artist’s dynamic and sensual art forms.
The radiance of colliding waves and ocean treasures
The swell of the sea, its rhythmical waves and stormy surge inspires the articulated, concave formations of the Waves series from the 1990s. Stones sit atop rings like a crimson sunset reflected in the surface or as if carried by the current. Their symbolism is undeniable: the dynamic, tempestuous ocean mirrors the ever-changing human condition and fascination with transformation found across Griegst’s work.
